Chat80 quick installation guide

Chat80 Basic and Professional editions will work on WindowsXP Pro, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 with .Net Framework 1.1 and IIS installed.

  1. Installation from ZIP file distribution
    1. Extract archive in desired folder on your computer.
    2. Make this folder Internet Information Server virtual folder (folder properties / web sharing).
    3. Allow ASPNET worker process to access this folder (folder properties / security).
    4. Make an Application in Internet Information Server properties.
    5. Open your web browser and type http://localhost/[virtual folder name]
    6. Optionally you can configure Chat80 through web.config file.

  2. Installation from Setup file distribution
    1. Extract setup archive in desired folder on your computer.
    2. Run Setup.exe and follow installation procedure
    3. To run Chat80 Basic Edition please choose Start --> Programs --> Chat80 Basic Edition -- > Start Chat80 from Start menu.
      To run Chat80 Professional Edition please choose Start --> Programs --> Chat80 Professional Edition -- > Start Chat80 from Start menu.
    4. Optionally you can configure Chat80 through web.config file.

    If you want to uninstall Chat80 Basic Edition, please select Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> Chat80 Basic Edition or Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> Chat80 Professional Edition if  you want to uninstall Chat80 Professional Edition.

  3. Web installation and activation

    If you want to put Chat80 on the internet follow few simple steps:

    1. Copy all files from installation folder to the internet location.
    2. Login to the www.chat80.com (if you do not have chat80 account follow New member sign up link).
    3. Click on the activate link near license information.
      This step is very sensitive because you need to type correct URL information. Activation key is based on the URL (domain + virtual folder (folders) name) of web site where chat has been installed.

      Example:
      If you have site placed at the http://www.mysite.com and want to put Chat80 in /chat subfolder, then you must type http://www.mysite.com/chat in the registration form.
      If you want to put Chat80 in /community/chat subfolder, then you must type http://www.mysite.com/community/chat in the registration form.

    4. Type URL twice and click Generate button.
    5. Your activation key has been generated.
    6. Copy license owner email and activation key in appropriate fields in web.config files.
